Program

The purpose of this program is to ensure that any material (wastewater) that enters the sanitary sewer system (discharges) at SLAC complies with applicable rules and regulations.

It covers routine, non-routine, prohibited, and delayed discharges; spill response, including sanitary sewer overflows and spills or prohibited discharges into the sanitary sewer; inspecting and maintaining the sanitary sewer system; changes to waste streams; and sampling.

It applies to workers, supervisors/line management, process owners, construction managers, area/building managers, subcontractors, the wastewater program manager, Environmental Protection, Radiation Protection, Chemical and Waste Management, Mechanical Fabrication, and Facilities and Operations.

All discharges to the sanitary sewer are regulated by a mandatory wastewater discharge permit (wastewater permit) issued to SLAC by Silicon Valley Clean Water (SVCW) and West Bay Sanitary Sewer District (WBSD). The permit places restrictions on the type, quality, and quantity of material discharged to the sanitary sewer system.
